Review: Prior to our visit, we both have heard some pretty nasty reviews about this place. Our general reason of visiting this restaurant was to see if the rumours were true about how "horrible" the food and service was. To our surprise, this restaurant ended up to be one of our favourite sushi places. Online I read that the food was tasteless, the sashimi was not fresh and the servers were rude. In my experience, I cannot agree with such. First of all, I like how despite it being an iPad ordering AYCE restaurant, the price is reasonable. Some places charge $30 for AYCE dinner if they have an iPad ordering system. This place is a lot cheaper than that. I believe lunch AYCE is $13.99, while dinner AYCE is only $20.99. Also, I like how the server does not need to "confirm" your order at your table, before the order will be sent out to the kitchen. Honestly, I think it is the most annoying thing ever when I just want to order and I have to wait for a server to make his or her rounds to confirm my order on an ipad. Here, once you click "confirm order" at the bottom, the order is immediately sent to the kitchen. The food came very quickly which I was impressed with. Many people claim that most of the deep fried food is bought in those frozen boxes from the grocery store, but our cheese wontons and shrimp tempora tasted fresh (and I know that because my mother makes homemade cheese wontons and shirimp tempora for us at home, so I can taste the difference). The rice needed a bit more soy sauce (for my preference, anyways), but that was fine because I added soy sauce to mine at the table. On the other hand, the sushi was amazing. The salmon sashimi was cold and fresh. The salmon inside the spicy salmon roll wasn't obnoxiously chewy, like some places, and the Sushi Pizza surprised us how different it was. First of all it was bite sized, so it was so much easier to pick up, and secondly it was cooked to perfection! One of the great parts of this restaurant is also the salad/dessert bar. At anytime during your visit, you can get up and visit the salad/dessert bar for some do it yourself salads with 3 different dressing choices, ice cream, puddings, or pastries. The servers we had were delightful, as well. They did not constantly visit our table like many sushi places servers do. And they served our food quickly. I honestly do not understand why this place got such low ratings. We will be visiting here again, for sure!

Review: This is our second time going to Umi. We both liked it a lot the first time we went. Before we decided to go to Umi, we heard that this place wasn't that good. When we went and ate, we learnt that those reviews were false. Umi is my favourite Sushi restaurant in Ajax. The food was amazing. The maki rolls were lacking some spicy sauce, but they were still good. The sushi pizza is my favourite order at Umi. At first, i thought it was a little small so I didn't think much of it, but it was amazing. There was no struggle to picking up the sushi pizza unlike other sushi places. The desert bar is a great touch to this restaurant. The ice cream is good and creamy, the pastries are fresh and the cheesecake pudding is different. The service was good and quick, which made me like this place even more. I recommend going to Umi sushi for at least one visit and if you like it, you will be wanting to come back.
